Imagine

One day, at dusk,
the sun said to the moon
I’m not going to rise,
I’m tired Moon,
everyone expects from me,
everyone takes me for granted,
they can’t even look at me
for I sting their eyes,
painful I am to them, Moon,
and yet
they seek my warmth and light,
that is what an irony I am.
Look at you instead, Moon.
They all love you.
They can look at you.
Some worship you.
They can’t get enough of you.
One of these mornings, Moon,
I’d just like to lie in.
I, imagine, perhaps,
when I appear the next day
as they would have been in darkness,
that they’d be grateful
for my existence.
