House of Z Spring Summer 2009 Collections
Recently, we were invited to an afternoon of fashion, in conjunction with International Secretaries’ Week. Hosting the afternoon were Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur and Chartreuse Coutture Sdn Bhd together with sponsors that have collaborated in bringing to town the latest “Zang Toi’s Spring/Summer 2009 Collection”.
You would already have known, Zang Toi is no newbie in the fashion arena. The Chinese – Malaysian born designer did not set out to be a designer, instead dreamed of becoming an architect or an interior designer. His interest and love for fashion bloomed later in life. Toi left Malaysia at the age of 18, and via Toronto, landed in New York a year later. There he attended Parsons School of Design and apprenticed with Mary Jane Marcasiano and Ronaldus Shamask. In 1989, he made a big bang in fashion with bright sarongs, strong suits and regal dresses, opening his own atelier. Instantly, remarkable Toi made a name for himself among fashion’s elite.

Toi who hails from Kuala Krai in Kelantan from Malaysia, is a master craftsman which his merit and interest reside in the fact that his design is distinguished not by novelty but by his intense commitment to color. His collections are done in the finest fabrics and characterized by his signature use of color and attention to detail.
He is a favorite of style arbiters including Sharon Stone, Ivana Trump, Hazelle Goodman, Kelly Preston, Kirstie Alley, Jennifer Tilly and Meg Ryan. Toi’s creations are original, feminine and simply exquisite. Toi, is today an inspiring fashion icon that many sought after. This is my first time seeing his work, and I now know why the hype resonates to the name.
